A little inspiration for you all...

Hello loves,
I have been doing a lot of thinking these past few days, and I wanted to do a post about what has been running through my mind.

I am nineteen years old, and I feel like I haven’t accomplished very much in my life. I am from a teeny tiny town in the middle of the United States, and I haven’t checked many things off my “life goals list.” Watching YouTubers and bloggers that travel all around the world makes me feel as though I’m lacking in life experiences. Traveled out of the country? Hasn’t happened. Visited the big cities in the US? I was in LA last year (it was perfect, by the way!), but I haven’t done that either. Even starting a YouTube channel? Only a dream. But this year I want to change this.

I am a nervous person by nature, which is why I have always been afraid to push myself. I didn’t take photography classes because I thought I wasn’t going to be good at it. Now I’m interested in photography and wish I would have had learned basics earlier on so I could be taking better photos now. I was too scared to learn an instrument, but now I’m wishing I would have learned guitar because I just love that instrument. It’s probably my favorite, and now I would have to start as a beginner. At my age? You can’t teach an old dog new tricks…

Well, this is all going to change, starting now. Last spring, I decided on where I was going to college and what I wanted to do. Instead of going to college for something “safe,” I’m going for magazine journalism and English. I love to write, and I’ve learned so much from my first year at college already. I know there aren’t heaps of jobs in journalism, but I figured I need to pursue what I want, and so far I am in love with my decision.

After graduation, my parents are hoping that I stay close. I appreciate my small town roots. These experiences helped me become the person I am today, but I’m looking forward to exploring. I love to travel, but I have hardly had the opportunity to see what this big world has in store. I’ll have mounds of debt, but I’ve decided to just move somewhere I’ve always wanted. Right now, I have my sights set on LA, NYC, or London. I’ve never been to New York or London, but I’m planning on studying abroad in London next spring (I can’t wait!). I can’t hold back—I just need to do it. I’ll be 22 when I graduate (which, is my golden birth age too—it’s gonna be a good year), and that’s the perfect time to set my roots somewhere new.

My dream has always been to write for a fashion magazine, and that is what I still aspire to do. I don’t want to give up on that. I just want to keep on working hard to get there. I’m hoping to see my name on a byline in Refinery 29, NYLON, or Company magazines. (A girl can dream, right?)

I’ve realized that this is the time in my life in which I need to do what I want to do. I don’t want to look back 20 years from now and regret not doing what I want. I’m planning on starting a YouTube channel this summer, and I’m hoping to get all the funds I’ll need to study abroad next spring. Maybe when I’m abroad I’ll get my hair done like Lou Teasdale’s at a Bleach salon, maybe I’ll finally visit a city in the US that I haven’t been. I’m not sure what that “thing” will be, but maybe I’ll just do it.

This is my final statement for you: do what you want, even if that means doing something little tomorrow. Want to make a little splurge on that makeup palette you have been eyeing for the past month? Always wanted to ask that cute guy out (I have…)? Just do it! I need to push myself too. Maybe that means saving up for that backpacking trip that you’ve always wanted to take through Europe with your besties or a weekend in Cali. Just find a way to make it work. Fight for it. And, most importantly, try not to regret anything. You will make mistakes, but these mistakes will help you become an even stronger woman.

I’m hoping to look back on this post a year from now and smile. I’m hoping I can say, “Yes, I did that! I never thought I would!” I’m sick of sitting back and wishing. I just need to do it.

Sorry about how long this is, but I just wanted to share my recent “inspirations” with you all. I’m hoping I follow through with these things, and I’m hoping you all can take a chance and follow what you want to do too. What have you been holding back from doing? I would love to hear more about what you aspire to do—maybe I can get some new ideas of things I’d like to do one day too!

Thanks for reading,
Maggie D. xx

Here's a little edit I made from a photo I took on my way to LA last year.

P.S.: Check out Nina Nesbitt’s “Way in the World” if you still feel like you’re trying to find yourself. I’m at that stage in my life, and it basically sums it all up. I think you would like it J

Year in Review: Style and Beauty Favorites

Hello loves,
Would you believe 2013 is over? Where did it go? Thinking back to last January, it’s crazy to see how much my personal style has evolved. I’ve grown so much, realized how eclectic my taste is, and decided to stick with it all. I had many inspirations throughout the year, and looking back, there were some pretty amazing pop culture and fashion icons that really made an impact on my personal style. Also, these are in no particular order—all of these trends and people had an equal impact on my style—it’s too hard to rank!

The Roaring ‘20s with Gatsby: After reading The Great Gatsby, I fell in love. I was even happier when I found out there was a movie in the works as well. I adore vintage, flapper dresses, and everything else associated with the 1920s. Seeing how the 1920s were brought to life in the film made me fall in love with this decade even more.

Kate Spade’s Spring 2013 Fashion Week Runway: Literally everything about her collection made my year. The girly colors mixed with edgy accents is basically my style. The feminine combined with the textures and prints made the collection a perfect way to shape my wardrobe for 2013.

Taylor Swift: I’ve always loved Taylor Swift, but the class and confidence Miss Swift has exuded throughout the entire year is something that I envy. She never had a misstep stepping out on the red carpet for ANY event. She always looked fabulous, and after her incredible year, I can definitely assure that her wardrobe is matching her music success.

Embellishments—On Everything: One thing I’ve loved all year long—studs, gems, and basically everything sparkly. Whether it’s sunglasses, tops, earrings, jewelry, and well, the list can go on forever, it really doesn’t matter. Shining bright was one of my favorite fashion highlights of the year.

Luxe Leather: Leather has always been one of my favorites, but this year has been one giant leather crush for me. Whether it’s leather leggings, jacket accents, jackets in general, jumpers, shoes, or anything, I probably own it. And I have no regrets. It’s been one of my favorites, and I know I’ll be carrying it into the new year!

The Ladies behind One Direction: Whether you’re a Directioner or not, you must admit that the stylist and girlfriends behind these men have styles that make them stand out themselves. These leading ladies rock a sort of edge that is enviable—whether you’re Perrie, part of the amazing girl group Little Mix, Lou Teasedale, the wonder behind the perfect hair of One Direction and 5SOS, or Eleanor Calder, exuding the class of a perfect lady, their style has made a real, enviable impact on my year of style.

Blunt Bangs: Cutting bangs in my hair was one of the most terrifying things I’ve done all year, but seeing many celebrities, including the lovely Taylor Swift that I listed above, doing it, I figured I might as well take a chance and do it. And I loved it!

Bold Brows: While I have these naturally, they have really been a huge statement this year. (Thank you Cara!) I personally like this trend, especially since it’s something that takes no work for me! We’ll see if this carries on into the new year…

Bright Pout: The daring colors and matte lips worn this year have been incredibly daring--and it was a trend I loved. I love trying risky shades and pushing the color boundaries.

Here were some of my favorite products: Clinique Chubby Stick in Curvy Candy, Maybelline Color Whisper in Cherry on Top, Maybelline Color Whisper in Berry Ready, Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Shock, Maybelline Baby Lips in Oh! Orange!, and Covergirl in Hot Passion.
Hair chalk/dye: To be honest, I think this is fun! I know there is much debate as to whether or not this is something a person should do, but I loved it. We are only young once, right? I might have to do this in the upcoming year—let’s hope I don’t get busted by the beauty police.

Here were a few of my favorites from 2013! I probably forgot about plenty of things, so if you have any favorites, please leave them in the comments below. Thanks for reading this year, and I hope to see much more of you in the year(s) to come. I will be posting a New Years resolution post tomorrow, so I hope you check back and comment what your fashion and beauty hopes for the new year will be.

Much love,
Maggie D. xx

Forever 21 Haul & Fall Outfit Inspirations

Hello lovelies!

I have been quite busy with college, so I am so sorry I haven’t been able to post near as much as I would like to! I will get into a better routine I promise! J This past weekend I finally left campus to check out One Direction’s movie This is Us (I’m a Directioner at heart) and of course, I had to do a little bit of shopping. Forever 21 is my weakness, and even though I only spent around $60 dollars, that’s a lot of money for a college student. I was able to purchase an adorable array of items that go perfectly with my college wardrobe.

First off, I was in dire need for a mirror for my desk (make-up application is much easier with one!). This mirror is adorable and was a little under $6. It was basically a steal.

I was also able to get this adorable duo as well. The pants were love at first sight; they were super light-weight and comfy for college classes. They were around $16, which wasn’t too bad at all! I also got this bright shirt to offset the black and white in the pants. Their plain tees were on sale for $3.80 which was perfect!

This jacket was incredible. I was looking for a new one for fall, and this one was perfect. I love the print on the top and back, it makes the jacket stand out from any other, plain colored one. This was a little more spendy at $35, but it will definitely come in handy when these cooler fall months come along.

And here was my make-up look for the day; I decided to keep it simple!

Also, here is a closer look at the accessories I wore with my new outfit. My new favorite thing to do is tie gold and silver together in my outfit!

So this was my little fall hall for you all! I wasn’t able to get very much (I hate being broke), but it was nice to get a couple new things!

What is on your fall must-have list? Please leave your fall favorites in the comments below, or leave links to a similar blog post you have made! Also, please check out my links in the upper right hand corner and go ahead and follow my favorite social networking sites! Thanks for reading!

Much love,

The Lovely Liebster Award

Hello lovelies!
I am so happy to say that the lovely Bethan Wain of Little Miss Fashion nominated me for a Liebster Award. It means so much to me! Here is a link to her blog here: http://littlemissfashionx.blogspot.com

For those of you that do not know what the award is, it's pretty much a tag for those who have less than 200 followers. It's an amazing way to help support all of the amazing bloggers in this blogger community! The person that nominates you will leave you 10 questions on their blog and I have to answer them, write down 10 other questions for the people I nominate, and then nominate 10 other people.

My 10 questions:
 1. Do you prefer straight or curly hair?
I prefer curly hair, but my hair doesn’t ever seem to curl very well! So, I usually end up keeping it straight.

2. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or Tumblr?
I am so torn! I would have to say I am either a Twitter or Instagram kind of girl!

3. What three words would you use to describe your personality?
Quirky, Funny (at least I think I am…) and Random… these are a lot of similar adjectives.

4. What inspired you to start blogging?
I have had a love for fashion for as long as I can remember! I loved following other bloggers, and then I realized, why don’t I just start my own? I haven’t posted very much as I just started college as well, but I am ready to keep it going!

5. What is your favourite high-end makeup brand?
To be honest, I do not have much extra spending money to spend on high-end make-up (poor college student problems). The brand that would be a little more expensive would be Clinique, but I am a dedicated drug store beauty girl.

6. Who are your favourite actresses/actors?
Rachel McAdams has been a favorite of mine for a long time! I also love Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner, and Mila Kunis. To be honest, though, I love all kinds of movie actors and actresses, so it’s so hard to choose!

7. What is your favourite subject in school?
I have always loved my English classes; reading and writing are kind of my things.

8. What do you like the most about blogging?
I love meeting new people and checking out their blogs as well. The blogging community is HUGE and it’s crazy how many amazing people you can meet!

9. What is your favourite ice-cream flavour?
My favorite is anything involving chocolate, candy, or cookies. My personal favorite is Cookies and Cream.

10. What is a quote that you live by?
“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Walt Disney.

Again, I want to thank Little Miss Fashion for tagging me in the Liebster Award! I hope you all learned more about me from my answers! Now I would like to tag these ten lovely bloggers; go follow them as well!
